Birthday Party Celebrations

Birthday Party Celebrations

Birthday parties are a joyous time to share with family and friends. Lehrman's birthday protocols were created to foster a community of inclusion, and we ask that you follow them for your child's celebrations.

As a pluralistic school we have an expectation that Jewish observances will be taken into consideration when planning all aspects of your child's birthday celebration. Birthday invites should include the entire homeroom class or gender. Kosher food should be served, including cake. Parties should not be planned on Saturdays or non-working Jewish holidays.

Thank you for helping to ensure each celebration will be special for both the birthday child and everyone coming to celebrate. We will send each family a reminder of both our in-school and out-of-school protocols the month before your child's birthday to serve as a timely reminder.

Early Childhood Birthday Celebrations: In School
- Arrange with your student's teacher a date for your child’s class to celebrate.
- You may bring in birthday treats. Please remember that we permit baked goods from two vendors only: Bunnie Cakes and Gallery of Cakes. Our Director of Early Childhood Education, Erica Kalish, must approve all treat selections ahead of time.
- Goody bags are permitted; however, they should not contain food or candy.

Kindergarten-Grade 5 Birthday Celebrations: In School
- Kindergarten-Grade 5 birthdays are celebrated monthly with a yummy treat provided by the school. Our 2023-24 celebration dates are:

Birthday Celebrations: Outside of School
- Invitations: Lehrman is glad to help you by putting invitations in classmates’ backpacks provided the entire class - or all children of one gender - is/are invited. We can also provide you with a class list of email addresses for those who wish to send evites.
- Dates for Parties: Families should not plan any birthday celebrations on Shabbat or any major Jewish holidays.
- Food: All birthday parties should include certified Kosher food and cake so that all students and families who attend can participate and enjoy the party comfortably. We will be glad to assist you if you have questions about this.
